DIY Tomte-Inspired Ornaments

While working an event at Normanna Hall, the home lodge for our local chapter of the Sons of Norway, I was inspired to make these fun ornaments based on a mythological creature called a tomte.  Head to Moms & Munchkins for the how-to.

Tuesday Tutorial - Middy Bitty Bag Placecards

Middy Bitty Bag Placecards for Whisker Graphics

When I came across this glamorous black and gold Betsy Johnson inspired shoot on Fab You Bliss, I immediately fell in love with every element.  I also thought to myself, 'Self, we can recreate the placecards with my Whisker Graphics metallic gold chevron Middy Bitty Bags'.  And for this month's Design Team submission, I did just that.

Tuesday Tutorial - Christmas Trains

Christmas Trains with Not Just A Mommy

On Fridays, I teach Enrichment Club, Kids In The Kitchen, at one of our local schools. Since we can't really cook, it's more like Fun Ways To Play With Food. But I didn't think that title would go over so well with parents.

Christmas Trains with Not Just A Mommy

Last week, we had some serious holiday fun making Christmas Trains. Adapted from My Baking Addiction's version, these no-bake treats are perfect for those of you (and by you, I mean us) who are over the intimidation of gingerbread house making and too old for making them from graham crackers.

They make a fun party centerpiece; have each child create a freight car and set the scene on a piece of foamcore.  You can add on as many cars as you like.

Tuesday Trend - Gift Wrapping Parties

Gift Wrapping Parties

Yeah, ugly sweater parties are 'in' right now.  I've been throwing them since 2008. I tend to lose interest in a theme if 'everyone' is having one. I guess I like to torture myself being angry I can never find themed items then become all stuck up about it when I can find it everywhere.  But I don't tire of hot cocoa bars...and they are everywhere, so go figure.  That is my passive-aggressive problem to deal with another day.

I will also never, ever, ever tire of gift wrapping parties.  Here's why...

Can you believe Thanksgiving is done and we are officially into Christmas season? Yes, Christmas stuff has been up since August but it doesn't 'begin' for me until our tree goes up this weekend.

Hostess wants to become part of your holiday traditions and I think I may have the perfect way to help.  We have been Hostess fans for years and of course, when they shut down a few years ago, I am not ashamed to say I horded a few things.  Now they are back and better than ever.

Holiday With Hostess Snacks table #HostessHoliday

I'm sharing some fun ways to play with their classic treats with my Holiday With Hostess Snacks table.  This is the perfect spread for after Christmas dinner, a special holiday playdate or a new family tradition of having a little fun with sweets. Waistlines be damned, resolutions are for New Year's.

Tiny Olive reusable gift bags

I do love my wrapping paper, but I love giving a gift within a gift even more! Deb Ivy, founder of Tiny Olive, grew up with this sentiment.  Her family has made a tradition of wrapping Christmas gifts in reusable fabric bags made from scraps of leftover fabric. for over 30 years.

I was thrilled when Deb reached out to me about her company to share her fabulous reusable gift bags with my readers.  She sent me the Maude Dot bags to have a little holiday gifting fun. All of the fabric bags have twill tape to tie up your gift into a neat, reusable package.

Although the bags are so cute on their own, you can dress them up for any occasion.  From embellishing with the recipient's name with fabric marker to cutting out felt and stitching on or using fabric glue for a monogram or holiday word, the possibilities are endless.

The best part, once you've given them as a gift wrap, they can be re-used for everything like travel bags, organizing cords and accessories or for everyday use in a handbag for keeping personal items in one spot, or your car's treat and snack bag for the kids. Or just stash them away with your stockings and ornaments and start a new tradition of using fabric bags instead of  wrapping paper.
